Beyond Monumental announces new distance and event name ahead of the 10th Annual Indianapolis Monumental Mile

The 2023 event will still include fan favorites from last year with the 1-mile races and doggie dash, as well as a new 5K race.

INDIANAPOLIS – (February 1, 2023) – Beyond Monumental, the 501(c)3 non-profit responsible for the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, is excited to announce the addition of a 5K distance at the 2023 Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile. The 2023 race will take place on Saturday, June 24th in downtown Indianapolis with its iconic finish on Monumental Circle.

The new 5K route is scheduled to start on Pennsylvania St. and its 2-loop course will pass by some of the city’s iconic monuments like the Indiana War Memorial, Depew Memorial Fountain, and more before finishing down Meridian St. at the foot of the Soldiers & Sailors Monument.

The event is expected to host hundreds of participants of all ages and abilities for this fun, fast, and festive experience as it celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Indianapolis Monumental Mile.

“In celebration of the 10th annual Indianapolis Monumental Mile, we’re excited to add a 5K and move this iconic event to a Saturday morning,” said Jed Cornforth, Executive Director of Beyond Monumental. “We look forward to celebrating health and wellness on Monument Circle this summer! As is the case with all Beyond Monumental events, proceeds will be donated to the Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement.”

The 2023 Indianapolis 5K & Monumental Mile starts at 8:00 a.m. with the 5K, followed by the Community Mile, Doggie Dash, and Youth, Open, Masters, and Elite waves of the Mile.  The Post-Race Celebration on the Circle will continue until 12 p.m., featuring food and beverages, vendors, and activations for participants and spectators.

Following the completion of the Men’s and Women’s Elite Miles, Beyond Monumental will be presenting 2022 donations to local public educators. Receiving donations are Indianapolis Public Schools, Lawrence Township School Foundation, MSD of Perry Township, and MSD of Pike Township, all of which were represented as participants in the Apex Benefits Monumental Kids Movement in 2022.

Beyond Monumental will also be awarding the company winners of the 2022 Monumental Corporate Cup; a wellness program celebrating employees’ participation in events and volunteerism throughout the year. Winners include Remodel Health (Small Business category), Apex Benefits (Medium Business category), and CNO Financial Group (Large Business category).
